I arrived in the US 5 years ago on Jun 15th 2004. It was a result of a long distance relationship that started about 2 years ago.
The fact that we were in different time zones was not the problem (13 hours difference with Singapore behind ahead 13 hours) - although it was not fun that while he slept I was working and on special holidays I would always be earlier to wish him than he would me - which included my birthday!
We spent a lot of time and $$ on long distance calls and looking at each other over the webcam. It was very much a good start to a romance since he spent a considerable time writing emails to me and sending me letters and CDs with songs.
The biggest problem was that physical contact when we needed each other and that cannot be replaced with a phone call or internet space. We got married in March 2003 and I spent the next year traveling every quarter to the US. Since Singapore did not require a visa to get into the US, I could only stay 90 days and then have to return and reenter the US. Since he was only a green card holder (NOT a US Citizen), he could not convert me to a US green card holder and we had to apply for that conversion which I found out after getting married took anywhere from 3 to 6 years!
